FRESH 🌱 | THE GARDEN Topic: How to Mulch Properly Mulch ain't just throwing some wood chips around a plant and calling it gardening. 😂 Done right, mulch protects the damn soil. Use about 2–4 inches of organic mulch—shredded leaves, wood chips, straw, or compost depending on what you're growing. Spread it evenly over the soil, but leave breathing room around stems and tree trunks. Don't pile mulch against them like a volcano; trapped moisture can encourage rot, pests, and disease. Before mulching, pull major weeds and water dry soil. Then lay the mulch down so it can help hold moisture, moderate soil temperature, suppress new weeds, reduce erosion, and gradually feed the soil as organic material breaks down. And here's the garden lesson: Mulch covers the roots without suffocating the growth. Protection isn't supposed to smother you. Rest isn't neglect. Covering isn't hiding. Sometimes what's happening underneath is the whole damn point. 🌱 #TheGarden #Fresh #Mulching #GardenTips #GrowSomething #SoilHealth #MinisterSpeaks
